Description

Applications
An RTL-SDR is ideally suited for many applications, including general radio scanning, air traffic control, public safety radio, ADS-B, AIS, ACARS, VDL2, trunked radio, digital P25/DMR voice, TETRA, POCSAG, weather balloons, APRS, NOAA APT or METEOR M2 weather satellites, Outernet, Inmarsat, Iridium, GSM, Milsatcom, radio astronomy, meteorite scattering monitoring, DAB, or for use as a cost-effective panadapter with a conventional amateur radio.

Simply browse our RTL-SDR blog website (please use Google, links are not allowed on eBay) for the application that interests you to see some ideas.

Improvements
This RTL-SDR device has several improvements over generic and other brands, including:
R820T2 tuner
Improved tolerances for passive components
A 1 PPM temperature-compensated oscillator (TCXO)
RF mode via integrated direct sampling (unlike simple RTL-SDRs, which can only go up to 24 MHz, it can tune up to 500 kHz)
SMA-F connector
Shielded aluminum housing with thermal pad for passive cooling to improve L-band performance
Software-activated 4.5V bias T-circuit
Improved PCB design for less noise and fewer spurious emissions.
A USB noise reduction filter, more bypass capacitors, and built-in ferrites for less PC noise.
Improved ESD protection (additional ESD diode and additional ESD discharge paths)
An improved front-end circuit designed for broadband use (other models still use a circuit designed only for DVB-T)
Multiple breakout pads on the board for advanced users
This is a software-defined RTL-SDR radio receiver with an RTL2832U ADC chip, R820T2 tuner, 1 PPM TCXO, SMA-F connector, and an aluminum housing with passive cooling. It tunes from 500 kHz to 1.7 GHz with up to 3.2 MHz instantaneous bandwidth (2.4 MHz max stable, 3.2 MHz max if your application tolerates USB drops). (RF operates in direct sampling mode – V.3 models and higher only). Perfect for use as a computer-based radio scanner with free software such as SDR#, HDSDR, SDR-Radio, Linrad, GQRX, or SDR Touch on Android. Works on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, and even embedded Linux computers like the Raspberry Pi.

This model features several key improvements over other models. It utilizes the enhanced R820T2 tuner, has a 1 PPM TCXO (2 PPM initial offset, 1 PPM temperature drift), improved component tolerances, and an SMA F connector. It also includes a software-activated bias-T circuit for powering external devices such as LNAs and active antennas. Furthermore, it offers RF receiving capabilities. Most standard RTL-SDR dongles can tune down to the lowest frequency of 24 MHz. This model incorporates hardware that unlocks "direct sampling mode," enabling tuning to 500 kHz. A built-in 25 MHz low-pass filter further optimizes this mode.

Several other improvements compared to other models have also been implemented. For example, a choke has been added to the USB line, and additional bypass capacitors and power line ferrites have been added to reduce internal and PC noise. The PCB has been redesigned for significantly lower noise performance, ESD protection has been improved, the front-end circuitry has been optimized for broadband use (other models are still optimized for DVB-T frequencies), the LDO has been updated, and several breakout pads have been added for advanced users.

The device requires USB 2.0 (works on most USB 3.0 ports).(It works with 0 ports, but we can't guarantee it will work on all of them, so please make sure your PC has a native USB 2.0 port just in case). Installation on Windows is easy; please Google the quick start guide from the RTL-SDR blog (links aren't allowed on eBay, unfortunately).

It can tune from 500 kHz to 1.7 GHz and has up to 3.2 MHz instantaneous bandwidth (2.4 MHz stable). (RF reception below 24 MHz in direct sampling mode with reduced power). Please note that RTL-SDR dongles are receiver-only.
