Exhaust flange silencer back box rusted flange clamp repair for BMW E46 M3
A common problem with E46 M3 models is exhaust flange failure, caused by rust/corrosion. Four flanges are used to clamp and seal the mid-pipe to the rear muffler/rear box. These are made of cast iron (even though they are fitted to a stainless steel exhaust system) and are inevitably subject to wear and breakage. These parts are integrated into the mid-pipe and rear muffler and are not available separately from BMW. Until now, the only options have been to purchase a new mid-pipe from BMW, which is extremely expensive. Alternatively, new flanges could be purchased, cut, modified, and re-welded – a tricky job. Neither of these solutions is ideal for this common problem.
