Before you install your new regulator rectifier;
Check the AC output of the stator.
Replace all burnt or corroded connections on the stator and regulator/rectifier.
Check and repair any melted cables.
Use high-temperature resistant dielectric grease for all connections.
How do you distinguish between a CDI box with AC and a CDI box with DC ignition?
If the headlights turn on without the engine running (only when the key is in the ignition), it's a DC system. With an AC system, turning on the headlights requires the engine to be running. Another indicator is if the engine runs solely on battery power; it's a DC system. If it runs without a battery, it's an AC system.
What does the voltage regulator do?
The function of this regulator is to convert the alternating current (AC) generated by the alternator into the direct current (DC) 12V used in the vehicle's electrical system and to keep the voltage within a certain range.
The voltage regulator is also responsible for ensuring that the battery is charged and the light bulbs do not burn out.
How can I tell if the charge controller might be defective?
- Incandescent light bulbs burn out constantly.
- Headlights become brighter and dimmer.
- The battery is constantly empty.
