The cover plate between the EGR valve and the cooler is made of laser-cut 1.5 mm stainless steel. The cooling plate between the pipe and the cooler is made of 2 mm stainless steel and has been tumbled to create a smooth and roughened surface for improved sealing.
EGR coolers can leak on MK7 Transits. This can give the impression that the cylinder head gasket is blown. Two things can happen: (1) Gases enter the engine coolant, pressurizing the system and forcing water out. I know of several engines that have been destroyed because of this problem. (2) When the vehicle is switched off, water is forced into the intake system, which can cause hydrolock and also destroy the engine. To make matters worse, there are three different types of EGR coolers: a round pipe with a round end (suitable for this kit), a round pipe with a square end, and a pipe with a square cross-section and a square end (not suitable for the latter). The kit includes two plates: one for the EGR valve end of the cooler and a second (larger) plate for mounting between the exhaust manifold and the EGR cooler. The kit only fits engines with a round cooler end. It does not fit the square version. The engine warning light will illuminate unless the EGR valve has been deactivated.
